The Housing Authority of the City of High Point (HPHA) stands as a pillar of support and empowerment for residents in High Point, North Carolina.
With a mission centered on providing safe, affordable housing and enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families, the HPHA has grown to be a crucial force in the community.
Through a range of programs and initiatives, the Authority focuses on fostering self-sufficiency, economic stability, and community engagement among its residents.
Under the leadership of CEO Angela Jiménez, the HPHA continues to make significant strides in expanding its services, developing new affordable housing projects, and fostering partnerships that support its mission.
In this interview, Angela Jiménez shares her vision for the future of the Housing Authority of the City of High Point and discusses the initiatives that will shape the organization in the coming years.
Our primary goal is to restore the Housing Authority to a high-performing organization with well-trained, dedicated professionals who are committed to meeting the objectives of the organization and the needs of the families we serve.
We aim to enhance our programs, expand our reach, and continue providing affordable housing while supporting residents’ journey to self-sufficiency.
We plan to address these challenges by continuing to educate private landlords about the benefits of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, seeking funding for additional development projects, and engaging the city in discussions about incentives for creating more affordable housing.
Collaboration and creative problem-solving will be key to overcoming these challenges.
We are excited about the Legacy Ridge Apartments project, which will add 100 new units to our affordable housing portfolio. Additionally, we are focusing on increasing the number of homeowners through our HUD Certified Housing Counseling Agency, which will help more families achieve homeownership.
The Housing Authority’s role will continue to evolve by seeking more creative partnerships and funding opportunities to develop or create additional affordable housing. We aim to be a leader in urban development by integrating housing solutions with community-building efforts that enhance overall quality of life.
We focus on monitoring our programs, making necessary adjustments, conducting surveys, and applying for both renewal and new grants. Strategic partnerships and ongoing evaluation of our programs help ensure their effectiveness and sustainability over time.
We plan to foster community engagement through social media, celebrate participants’ achievements, and offer incentives. Building strong relationships with residents and involving them in our initiatives will also be crucial for encouraging participation and support.
Breaking cycles of poverty requires demonstrating care, support, and fostering belief in individuals. Providing guidance, resources, and encouragement is essential. Believing in people until they believe in themselves is a core part of our approach to empowering communities.
We are currently collaborating on the Legacy Ridge Apartments project, which is supported by a $6.5 million grant from the City of High Point. This partnership will help us provide more affordable housing options and positively impact the community.
Success will be measured by the outcomes of our programs and services, including the achievement of our participants’ goals. We will look at factors such as the number of families achieving self-sufficiency, the number of new homeowners, and overall community impact.
Success is also about how well we meet the diverse needs of our residents.
My message is to adjust your vision and believe in your potential. Life’s challenges are not something to be ashamed of, but opportunities to grow and shine. Affirm your vision daily, walk through fear, and embrace your potential. You are enough and capable of achieving great things.
We thank Angela Jiménez for taking the time to share her insights and plans for the future of the Housing Authority of the City of High Point. Her dedication to empowering residents and enhancing the community’s quality of life is truly commendable.
The HPHA’s ongoing efforts and future initiatives under her leadership are set to make a lasting impact on High Point and its residents.
